Dr. Jo-an Aguirre Dovaston is a Filipino GP who obtained her Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery - University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines in 2004. She worked as a generalist in Manila, Quezon City, Aklan and Romblon for 7 years.

She migrated to the United Kingdom and worked as a Medical Doctor from 2011 to 2013. During this period, she worked as a Senior House Officer in Cardiology, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Intensive Care and Oncology. She then worked as a Fellow in Plastic Surgery at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, England from 2013 to 2014. In 2014, she commenced her Specialty Training in General Practice under Royal College of General Practitioners – East of England Deanery. During her 3 years training programme she worked in 2 different Primary Care Practices, and she also worked as a GP registrar in Paediatrics, General Medicine, Psychiatry and Emergency Department. After completion of her GP Specialty Training in 2017, she decided to continue to work as a GP at the 2 primary care practices in Bury St. Edmunds, England who trained her until she migrated with her family to Western Australia in 2018.

Since arrival in WA in 2018, Dr. Dovaston has been working as a regular GP in Rockingham Medical Centre. She also works as a locum rural GP in Manjimup and Bridgetown. She was previously employed by Royal Perth Hospital to become a part time Quarantine GP to help treat Covid patients in Quarantine Facilities during the height of the Covid Pandemic from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, the Centre for Disease Control in Northern Territory employed her to become Head of the Tuberculosis Programme at Royal Darwin Hospital. She also currently works as an Urgent Care GP for ForHealth Group. Due to her previous training in Plastic surgery, she has a special interest in Minor Surgery and Skin Cancer surgery.
